One Community Working Together

Big Lottery Fund have today announced that Scotswood Centre is to benefit from over £340,000 to develop the Scotswood Time Bank over the next 4 years.

A Time Bank is a way for local people to benefit from sharing the skills and knowledge that they have, as every time they share those skills, by helping a neighbour, they will earn time-credits which are ‘banked’ until they need to ‘buy’ a service from someone else.

The Time Bank will bring together people of all ages within our community, to not only help with practical tasks like gardening and shopping, but will also facilitate opportunities to build new friendships and learn new skills.

We know Scotswood is already a very self-supporting and proud community, and we want to build on, and reward, the tremendous community spirit in the area; everyone accessing the facilities at Scotswood Centre will now be automatically enrolled into the Time Bank, and our helpful staff will be able to advise members on how to get the most out of their membership.

Not sure how you can earn credits? Talk to Keisha or Lauren at reception, or phone or email if that is more convenient.

Help us to help Scotswood stand on its own feet.

Social Tuesday

Social Tuesday has been becoming very popular with older adults, interacting, socialising and meeting new buddies. Enjoy playing a variety of traditional board games, a game of pool, darts and dominoes, refreshments, a good laugh and a good old cup of tea or coffee! Come down and challenge our top player Billy. Do you think you can beat him?

The charge for Social Tuesday will be 1 Time Credit per hour.

Men’s Shed

Scotswood Men's Shed group gives men who are retired or have time on their hands a chance to pursue their practical interests. If you’re at a loose end and would like to get out more pop down every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon from 1-6pm. A great chance to get involved in activities such as Woodworking, Gardening, Decorating, Cooking and anything else you may be interested in. Also a chance to meet new friends, share skills and ideas, make and mend things and most of all enjoy yourself and have a good laugh and crack on. Refreshments are provided.

Thursday Youth Group

Scotswood Centre works in partnership with PLAY in NEWCASTLE providing 2 youth clubs for children aged 5-12 years. The groups are held at the centre every Thursday. Providing fun sessions full of sports, games and arts and crafts. They will all be provided with healthy snacks and drinks. This is a chance for children to meet up with their friends and also make new ones, learn new things and interact with other members. Spaces are limited and registration forms must be filled in by a parent or guardian before any child can attend. There will be a charge of 1 Time Credit.
